drinking water wells near Marcellus shale gas extraction
They say methane and other hydrocarbons in
drinking water wells near fracking areas are a sign of this.

Then came the most - publicized case of
well -
water contamination
near fracking operations, in Dimock Township, Pa., just east of Bradford County; the federal Environmental Protection Agency said in 2012 that preliminary results found the
water was safe to
drink, though it did contain chemicals as
well as explosive methane.
Near fracking operations in Pavillion, Wyoming, monitors with the Environmental Protection Agency detected unsafe levels of benzene in
water - monitoring
wells and methane and various hydrocarbons in public
drinking water wells.
«Methane concentrations in
drinking water were much higher if the homeowner was
near an active gas
well,» explains environmental scientist Robert Jackson of Duke University, who led the study published online May 9 in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Moving septic systems further away from private
wells and limiting development
near wells could also help protect
drinking water from contamination.
In other words, the lucky (but small) percentage of the population that lives
near the ocean (a
good source of magnesium) and eats foods grown in magnesium rich soil,
drinks magnesium rich
water, and doesn't suffer from stress or consume sugar or caffeine might be ok... but the rest of us might need some additional magnesium.
Two maybe three years ago I bought a bag of Chicken Jerky at Cost - Co thinking it would be a healthy treat for my Pug, after eating these treats I noticed he Mugsy would
drink water like he could not get enough... Then one night he kept coming to me with his ears laid back and hanging with a look in his eye that I knew something was wrong, went to my daughters house as she is really into dogs and hoping she could figure it out,
well she noticed he could not pee no matter how much he tried, so rushed him to the vet, thank God, had I waited he would have died as his bladder was full of crystals and was
near rupturing, anyway the vet catheterized him after putting him under anesthesia as it was so painful, after all was said and done and $ 1, ooo.oo later, he ended up on a special diet which we kept him on for
well over a year... decided to try a
good, but less expensive dog food, had his urine checked and he was doing fine... I believe it was the chicken jerky and the salt content, but of course I can not be sure and I do not remember the brand... Thankfully he has had no more occurrences, needless to say he does not get chicken jerky anymore and definitely nothing from China at least not that I know of.
Research has found that groundwater nitrate levels in private
wells across the state are
nearing the state's
drinking water standard of 10,000 micrograms per liter.
Earthquakes and contaminated
drinking water not only sound horrible for people living
near wells — they're also outrageous enough to mobilise outrage across the country.
In active gas - extraction areas (one or more gas
wells within 1 km), average and maximum methane concentrations in
drinking -
water wells increased with proximity to the
nearest gas
well and were 19.2 and 64 mg CH4 L - 1 (n = 26), a potential explosion hazard; in contrast, dissolved methane samples in neighboring nonextraction sites (no gas
wells within 1 km) within similar geologic formations and hydrogeologic regimes averaged only 1.1 mg L - 1 (P < 0.05; n = 34).
There are at least three possible mechanisms for fluid migration into the shallow
drinking -
water aquifers that could help explain the increased methane concentrations we observed
near gas
wells (Fig. 3).
The contamination of groundwater is of major concern for those who live
near drilling operations and rely on
drinking water wells.
