I have had to learn some of these the hard way, especially the painters tape,
the drying paint brush, and cleaning the paint tray.

I recommend chalk
paint because it
dries so quickly and doesn't leave
brush marks.
Once all strips were in the jar with no gaps, I went back in with my
paint brush and added a little more glue over the top of each «seam» where the strips overlapped, just to make sure they stayed down when
dried.
Once the Mod Podge is
dry, use your
paint brush and
brush on another coat on top of the glitter to set it so it won't come off.
Tip: using cardstock becomes a little messy... if you are using chalk
paint you can always sand down the sloppy edges and then finish it off with a
dry brush technique in the old white to fade some of the those not so nice spots.

So anyway... thanks to my cans of Annie Sloan Old White Chalk Paint, I
painted the top of the table and used Charcoal for the legs and stenciled and
dry brushed the top with French Linen.
It looks much better lightened up with
paint and
dry brushing on the darker
paint really does make the details pop.
Because the ceiling in the music room is copper metallic tile, I decided to
dry brush some copper
paint over top of the gold and white.
I felt confident applying the clear protective coat without the FrogTape using an angled
brush and didn't want to pull off any of the bonding coat which can easily happen once
paint dries.
I
brushed it off gave it a light sanding and off I went... it took me less than an hour chalk
paint dries very fast!

dry brushing you want to dip the
brush in the
paint and get most of it off your
brush with a paper towel and very lightly
brush the tips of the
brush onto the furniture.
(I recently tried
painting something and although I tried to be very careful, used a Purdy
brush and Behr latex, there were drips and lots of
brush strokes once it was
dry.)
If you're wanting a bit of a layered look with the colors, you could then
dry -
brush another color (s) on top on the spray
paint, once it's
dry.
If you try that approach, keep a rag handy while you're
dry brushing so that you can wipe any excess
paint off as you go.
Brush on several light coats of chalkboard
paint onto labels, allowing to
dry thoroughly between coats.
