dumbbells in each hand when you squat, but as you increase the weight, gripping dumbbells becomes harder to do without hurting your hands.

hands are able to move through a full range of motion and further across your chest because they're not locked
in place like
when gripping a bar.
Another option is to hold one
dumbbell with both
hands in front of you
when performing the sumo squat, or you can hold a
dumbbell or a kettlebell
in the center of your chest with both
hands to perform a goblet squat.

when you only have one
dumbbell or cable handle
in your
hand, the resistance will tend to pull your body into a rotational movement.
When you get more advanced, you can do this holding a

hand or wearing a weighted vest.
