Much of what we played and
saw during our time with the game was hugely innovative for the series, even if many of the concepts are incredibly common in other action - RPGs.
One of the first things that I
noticed during my time with the game however wasn't the story or the gameplay mechanics, but rather just how beautiful the setting for the game, Red Creek Valley, looks.
It works, too,
as during my time with the game a lot of players would use one of their thugs or family members to get the first player token so they could choose where to go first during the next act.
my time with the beta saw me take on the role of the Raiders, whom have up to sixteen different characters available, although the options were heavily
limited during my time with the game.
While the game is an iterative update over Dirt Rally, it doesn't really offer much improvement visually although the performance of the game is remarkable and I never managed to find any major issues with the frame
rate during my time with the game.
I tried this method a few
times during my time with the game, and although fun and novel — I did find myself reverting back to the trusty Pro Controller for the majority of my playthrough.
At no
point during my time with the game as I not smiling like an idiot, leaping out of my chair as I made a brilliant save or getting sweaty palms as I neared the finish of a perfect run.
If you just want to stroll around town you can easily do that as well but you are bound to run into thugs that will quickly challenge you and test your might, but luckily the combat is really entertaining and never got repetitive in the crazy amount of battles I got
in during my time with the game.
But, as was
shown during my time with the game, fighting is only an option, as there will be chances to use the world to your advantage, such as causing enough noise in a location to bring in a horde to sweep out any armed thugs causing you problems.
Players can also create unranked rooms in order to just duke it out, but when I tried to join some unranked
rooms during my time with the game I didn't find any in operation.
I
failed during my time with the game to solve the main puzzle, but though I couldn't find a way across the river I was happy to just hunt for objects — why is a tool box in a tree?
While the game does feature a lot of combat, stealth looks like it will be an important part of going through the game's encounters based on what I
saw during my time with the game.
I did find on one occasion that attempting to watch a replay caused the game to crash, so there are seemingly a few kinks still to be ironed out, but thankfully I didn't experience any other similar
problems during my time with the game.
