e-reader makers, expanding the choice for consumers even more.
As has long been rumored, Barnes & Noble finally dropped a system update to their popular NOOK Color
e-reader this week, bringing its
hybrid device even closer to being a full grown tablet.
The 5.5 and 10.8 - inch
devices are marketed as tablet /
e-reader hybrids, with Sharp having inked deals with Japanese publishers to offer books and newspapers to buyers in its home market.
The company has been issuing
hybrid tablets and
e-readers since early last year with the Pandigital Novel as its first
device.

device, which seems to be a
hybrid of the netbook and
E-Reader can do more.
Slotted as
hybrid devices somewhere between full tablet computers like the iPad 2 and pure e-Ink based
e-readers like the Amazon Kindle and B&N Nook Simple Touch, both Amazon and Barnes & Noble have unveiled «e-reading friendly» tablets just in time for the 2011 holiday season.

hybrid display is an interesting idea, however, and would reduce the number of
devices gadget hounds would have to carry around on long trips where a tablet and an
e-reader would come in handy.
