The department store chain John Lewis highlighted the popularity of e-
readers this Christmas,
reporting a jump in sales of Sony's
eBook readers.
The Digital
Reader's post in turn points off to Publishers Weekly's
report, which describes a survey taken of nearly 5,000
readers as to why they aren't buying as many
ebooks anymore.
Though the Star sometimes describes the Dispatches as an
ebook subscription offering, what it has in fact created is a weekly longform magazine, or special
report series, that's entirely funded by
readers.
Whether or not the industry is ready may still remain to be seen, but with publishers like Hachette
reporting record
ebook sales even in 2013, it's a clear sign that
readers are responding to digital publishing, regardless of where it originated.
Audiobook sales continue to be on fire, far outpacing
eBook sales, the next fastest growing format according to the American Association of Publishers as
reported by The Digital
Reader.
That's according to Nikkei, which today
reports that Amazon is set to bring its popular line of
ebook readers to the country as soon as April, with pricing believed to come in at less than 20,000 yen ($ 260).

ebook reader market is on an alarmingly precipitous decline, sent reeling by more nimble tablet devices that have gained the ardent patronage of consumers, according to an IHS iSuppli Consumer Electronics special
report from information and analytics provider IHS.

He cited a recent
report by Codex Forrester and Gartner Research that 30 % of all
readers now use
eBooks as their primary method of reading.
