Project Gutenberg was launched
from the University of Illinois, with the help of English - speaking volunteers, its first goal has been to provide
ebooks to the English - language community, that is to say 95 % of internet users in the early 1990s.
Today we received an email
from Hugh McGuire, the guy who started the fantastic LibriVox public domain audiobook community (with many of their source
eBooks coming
from Project Gutenberg), announcing the launch of his new audiobook company called Iambik Audio.
The first site has most of the 40,000

From time to time we come across public domain books we want to publish on this site, but the
ebooks aren't available at
Project Gutenberg or other free sources.
We are experienced in serving publishing houses with large volumes and we undertake
eBook conversion
projects of almost any size ranging
from brochures, annual reports, journals, magazine to some large books.
Finally — and I feel bad saying this as I'm a fan of the people involved in these
projects — every web - based
ebook reader I've seen so far had at least a whiff of the old death - smell
from the outset.
Interesting statistics
from the
Project revealed that 42 % of respondents read
ebooks on a computer and a nearly equal number of people read on a dedicated e-reader device.
It does come preloaded with around 60 free
ebooks from Project Gutenberg but does not give you ANY way at all to purchase books directly.
Project Gutenberg has disabled
ebook downloads
from people in Germany.
