A number of authors have criticized the concept of free book giveaways or

DBW just came out with a better, but not perfect,
ebook bestseller
list and it is even more dominated by traditional publishing,
at least on the surface.
(I just checked the top ten fiction bestsellers on Amazon from the last New York Timesbestseller
list and indeed all are priced
at $ 9.99 in
eBook format, with the exception of the one title noted by the WSJas not available as an
eBook.)
For anyone else who happens upon this post and comment, this looks to be a daily blog
listing free and / or cheap
ebooks newly available
at Amazon or Barnes and Noble.
If indie authors now have the ability to get their books
listed at every
ebook store, why then are some authors so quick to surrender their worldwide distribution in favor of territorial distribution and retailer exclusivity?
Ebooks sold through Gardners will earn authors 60 percent of the
list price after VAT — the same rate Smashwords authors earn on books sold
at iBooks and other major retailers.
