The Kindle and Nook experience via Android
apps on an
eink screen is more than acceptable, but certainly isn't optimal.
I think that would help to put a lot of people's minds at ease since a lot of the
apps out there will not function properly on the various
eink devices currently running older versions of Android.
Or, an
eInk Android tablet that can use the Kindle and Kobo
apps, and has size and capabilities of a Kobo Aura One or Kindle.

Without audio abilities and an
eink screen which is not suited to video
apps, there is little use to additional
apps.
eInk reader sales are going down because people are using an
app on high resolution tablets like the iPad.
You'll lose the gray scale shading, but is great for using some
apps that are not designed for
eInk.

eink is a custom single - target
app: Clean rendition of dense / finely printed 2 / 3 - column pages, filled with tiny font pitches and math equations that rarely are correctly and sharply displayed on
eink with generic LCD - designed PDF engines.
Orion Viewer is a good and
eink - friendly PDF reading

There are «millions» of
apps which will install and work on an
eink device running Android 4.0.4?
There may be millions of Android
apps out there, but it's unlikely that the vast majority of them would work on your device or on any other
eink device running Android 4.0.4
However, we're talking about a dedicated eReader with an
eInk screen and an
app store that isn't even open yet.
Main advantages —
eInk Pearl screen, much larger 9.7 ″ screen, all the Kindle ecosystem benefits, syncs with Kindle
Apps and other Kindles.
Then we submitted the
app (works for all
eInk Kindles except Kindle Touch) and just last week Amazon says — You might as well do some other
app, because this
app will take 3 months to approve.
It may or may not be enough — the Kindle
App Store has been in beta since February 2010 and Android
Apps are not built for
eInk.
Kindle WiFi comes with the new
eInk Pearl screen, it has text to speech, performs better, and now even has Kindle
Apps of two different types to back it up.
We received quite a few replies from readers but one of the more interesting ones said they'd like to have
apps like Flipboard, Zite and Pulse on their
eInk device.
So why aren't there
apps like this on
eInk devices?
Perhaps you aren't aware that there are dozens, if not hundreds, of
apps («Active Content») for Kindle
eink devices, and new ones show up continuously.
How well they work is determined by the
app developers and whether or not they support
eink in their
app.

There is no perfect reading
app despite the iPad having multiple advantages over
eink devices.
The new Kobo eReader offered through Borders is a stylized, easy - to - use, affordable
eInk device that comes pre-loaded with the Borders eBook
app.
Being a touch screen device, one could also write games or useful
apps (although the speed and
eink are limiting).

Think of all the types of
apps that could be developed for this display, not to mention the
eInk display itself.
The only downside is that the
eInk display used in this thing won't be able to keep up with many of the tasks run by tablets, such as watching videos or playing games, but you could install alternate eReader
apps, such the Amazon Kindle
app, to make the eReader a lot more flexible.
