eink can't compete because they charge so much for the panel, and the refresh rate doesn't allow it to compete at the > $ 300 price point.
I never heard of a route update where they send people to a bus stop??? Here maybe once a year a route chages that they hav to put up a temp poster but that is so seldom it will be a waste of money to
do eink but then again I live in a small city it will probably work in a city the size of new york or Tokyo.
For instance, while you could say that coolreader works well with
eink, it doesn't compare with Moon + Reader when it comes to completely respecting the styling of the ePub file.

do not see why a black and white
eink display would cost so much.
eInk is a splendid technology if what you want to
do is read text.
The etching that they
did on it makes it just as easily readable in direct sunlight as the Paperwhite and other
eInk Kindles.

I think it is the best all - round
eink reading screen currently available and
do most of my reading on it.
In the very early days of Kindle, when its
eInk screen was just a gleam in Jeff Bezos's eye, Amazon was smart enough to realize it had never
done manufacturing before.
There really isn't much need for improvement in the basic
eink technology — it is a single - function device that
does its job very well.
With Kobo Aura HD just like the Kindle Paperwhite the
eink display, which is a reflective display, that is
does not have own light source, placing a capacitive layer and a front light film layer causes clarity loss by upto 20 %.

What I would like to
do is open up the Dasung Paperlike 13.3 ″ and see what SoC /
eink display they use to get the animations shown.
I don't believe e-ink technology is catching up fast enough to offer significant kindle
eink upgrades on a yearly basis.

Sony is
doing interesting things with Mobius technology it co-developed with
eInk called Mobius.
If Amazon doesn't start using / trialling additional screen technologies it risks linking its fate with that of
eInk, which would be a dangerous and completely unnecessary strategy.
The UI for
eink Kindles is even worse as they don't even have a running header for the title.
The dedicated eReader (with its pitiful
eInk screen and inability to
do little other than read books) was supposed to join the GPS unit, the MP3 player, and the camcorder in the dustbin of history, buried by tablets and smart phones.
I'm never in a position where I have to read in direct sunlight so really don't need
eInk.
EInk is an entirely different type of screen, they are not fast enough to show video properly and as far as I know are mono colour — I've only seen black but they could probably
do other colours if they wanted to.

do not buy ebooks from apple mainly because I prefer
eink and I hate the iBook interface.
I don't buy the stories of headaches, but I really want a display that runs outside, and reading
eink is really pleasant.
You don't have to buy the premium tier top of the line device to read and folks have been bitching about them not innovating at all with
eInk Kindles lately.

We've reached this magical point where people either claim LCD is just as good for reading as
eInk (the common justification being you can't read
eInk in the dark — guess it's too much like a book) or they just don't mention the readability of the screen.

The challenge here is that while
eInk is often easier to read, many eTexts
do not have a version that will work on

For best all - around versatility and ability to
do everything I'm looking for a 7in tablet seems to fit, instead of getting a dedicated ereader like an
eInk device and a separate netbook for web surfing with gaming & videos.
It certainly seems that in their rush to get the Nook in for Christmas season B&N didn't get enough time to optimize Android 1.5 for the
eInk and LCD dual screens.
There's no mention of the screen — don't see how it could be anything other than the new
eInk pearl screen.
It's a shame that
eInk's refresh rates simply don't allow meaningful implementation of pinch to zoom, but double - tap - to - zoom - in - and - out could make PDFs, if not useful, at least bearable.
Despite Bezos» insistence that he doesn't need his customers on the «upgrade treadmill», Amazon released an upgrade to pretty much every single one of their devices, including two new Kindle Fire tablets and the predicted backlit

does nt the Kindle Fire have the same screen or any other tablet pc for that matter.

In the absence of solid proof that LCDs are just as good as
eInk when it comes to reading LCD lovers will just have to accept that a lot of people don't like reading on LCD screens, that they experience real eye strain when reading on LCD screens, and for them
eInk is much better than LCDs.
Kobo is still making
eInk eReaders, and Amazon still
does as well.
Amazon
does a ton of tweaks to improve performance of
eInk.
Then we submitted the app (works for all
eInk Kindles except Kindle Touch) and just last week Amazon says — You might as well
do some other app, because this app will take 3 months to approve.
With the Kindle 3
doing very well and B&N going with a Nook Color «reading tablet» rather than an
eInk based Nook 2 the obvious question is —
Does Nook still have a chance against the Kindle?
eInk is very close to paper — It doesn't tire the eyes, it's readable in sunlight and bright light without glare, and it has great battery life (now up to a month when wireless is off).
Now that PVI has bought
EInk the whole confusion around who
does what is gone.
