We spotted grey reef sharks and
eagle ray in the blue.
Our team members continue their field work, including nutrition studies on spotted
eagle rays in Florida and more opportunities to work with sharks, including the great white, on the OCEARCH vessel.
However, when it can be dived and currents are swift, divers get to experience a drift that attracts the big schools of fish, which in turn attract Caribbean reef sharks; the occasional hammerhead, mantas, schooling
eagle rays in groups of up to 40 or 50, and lots of other pelagic life not normally seen in calmer areas.

This week
in Bunaken on a dive site called Mamaling on the north of the island, guests were treated to a flyby of two spotted
eagle rays.
The marine life
in Belongas is second to none and can range from serious pelagics (mantas, whale sharks, mola's, tunas, barracudas, blur marlin,
eagle ray's) through to ornate critters (nudibranch, harlequin shrimps, ghost pipefish, frog fish, hairy octopus and much much more).
«We were met with an unreal amount of soft and hard coral and a buzzing of fish
in every direction, white tip reef sharks were on every side of us and then to have 7
eagle rays glide over the top of us!
Most of the dives
in this area are drift wall dives interspersed with sand channels where you may spot southern stingrays, spotted
eagle rays, moray eels, sea turtles, barracuda, grouper, dolphins, and a wide variety of smaller tropical fish.
This week
in Belongas South Lombok we have been especially lucky with Hammerheads, Barracuda, Tuna, White tip reef sharks,
eagle rays, Banded sea snakes and hundreds of Mobula
rays.

rays that have made diving special as they have been counted on every dive.
On any given dive you can expect white - tipped reef sharks, marbled stingrays, green turtles, Galapagos fur seals, sea lions,

Spotted
eagle rays are usually accidental by - catch, entangled
in nets for other fishes.
This site is a large volcanic pinnacle awash
in marine life, including large schools of barracuda,
eagle rays, sea lions and sea turtles.
In the course of a single dive, you may find schooling hammerhead sharks, large numbers Galapagos and silky sharks,
eagle rays, thick schools of skipjack and yellowfin tuna, and even a pod or two of bottlenose dolphins.

in the coastal waters of Florida.

in the Galápagos regularly see whale sharks, hammerhead sharks, spotted

rays, sun fish, and many other marine creatures that are on divers» bucket lists.
We leave early
in the morning (continental breakfast at the shop) and head to South Water Caye for our first dive (a Marine Reserve and a great area to see
eagle rays).

Meno Slope Also on the west side of Gili Meno and only 5 mins away by boat, Meno Slope is totally covered
in orange soft corals and is home to plenty of turtles, eels, scorpion fish and is famous for an
eagle ray who took up resident there as a baby and is now often spotted cruising around and is not shy of divers.
There is plenty to see diving between the two reef structures at depths ranging from 45 - 60 feet / 14 -18 mt. Sightings here could include southern stingrays and nurse sharks
in the sandy bottom, spotted
eagle rays, turtles, schools of tarpons and a wide variety of smaller tropical reef fish thriving around healthy corals.
It is home for corals, sponges,
eagle rays, dolphins and the largest living barrier reef
in the world (and our own Blue Marlin Lodge!)
Critters here can include
eagle rays, turtles, lobsters, nurse sharks, and schools of blue wrasse
in mid water.
This is also the place to see squadrons of spotted
eagle rays swimming
in formation.
Suddenly you look
in to the blue and see a lonely
Eagle ray soaring by, moving so effortlessly through the water, making the strong current you are attempting to fight look non-existent.

By the end of the trip when I lay down to rest, what flashed upon my inward eye were memories of encounters with manta
rays, schools of
eagles rays, a mighty whale shark up close, nurse sharks and stingrays buzzing around me, and getting lost
in big schools of fish.

In winter, migrating schools of
eagle rays can often be seen at this site.
