As a concept
Early Access is an idea I love as it allows for otherwise potentially niche
titles that would have been unable to get funded by big publishers a chance to get made and satisfy the target audience, but
in practice Steam's system is a steaming mess.
Bluehole's
early access title struggles to maintain its 30 fps target and certain conditions
in particular can contribute to some particularly poor moments.
I don't often cover
titles in Early Access, but the simple fact is that these games, which are still
in development, are asking for customers money, and thus it might be worth covering at least some of them.
If the promise of magical anarchy wasn't appealing enough then let it be known that
in the process of purchasing the
title on
Early Access gamers will get some exclusive goodies.
Bethesda Changes Their Review Policy -
In a move that caught some off guard, Bethesda announced this past week that they will no longer be sending
early review copies of their games out to the press, opting instead to give reviewers
access to their
titles a mere 24 hours before they launch into eager gamers» hands everywhere.
As you may be able to see from the screenshots, there are dedicated options to report bugs and provide feedback, which is a nice feature
in an
early access title.
Providing something
in between Divekick and more complicated fighters is one of the core tenets of currently

title Fantasy Strike, which people can currently support on Patreon and is on pace to hit Steam
early access later this year, by Sirlin Games.

in Early Access, I - Illusions» sci - fi shooter is already one of the highest rated virtual reality
titles on the market.
Again, yes, this is a
title in early access, its meant to have some teething problems.
For platforms, I think Steam's inflexibility with custom business models and the forced nature of promoting
Early Access titles as final SKU's on their storefront next to finished
titles goes against the idea of providing developers safe ground to sell their game while
in - development (while also sending conflicting messages to considering developers and consumers).
The VR
title I'm thinking of here is called Beat Saber, and it reached some fantastic milestones even while
in early access.
While I don't think there's anything wrong with either side from a consumer point of view (after all, a lot of games release
in Early Access to fund the rest of their development), I think that critiquing an
Early Access title inherently neuters the points being presented.
Fans of the
title will find out what it's really like to play
in the world of Otherland, as it has officially entered the
Early Access phase on Steam today.
In theory, releasing a
title for
early access allows the developers to get money to continue developing their game.
As you probably already know I don't support microtransactions
in general, but I support them even less
in an
Early Access title.
The cooperative survival action - adventure
title, The Wild Eight is set
in the Alaskan wilderness and is presently
in Steam's
Early Access system.
Bossa Nova will launch the ship 150 feet
in the air, complete with stations to play the game, when the
title pops into
early access on May 17th.
Inspired by the likes of Rollcage and other classic car combat
titles, GRIP is currently available on Steam
Early Access where it got a lot of attention, now the full release will receive an enhanced version sometime
in 2018.

I'm intrigued to see where the devs take They Are Billions from here as it is an incredibly solid game, not often seen
in Early Access titles.
In Street Fighter V's case, and where all of this gets real sour, real fast, comes from selling what should be classified as an
Early Access title for full price, off reputation alone.
While the island is pretty large
in its current state, one can't help but feel like there isn't all that much going on between Point A and Point B, but such is the nature of
Early Access titles.
