earliest traditions are almost exclusively those of the capital city.

and its two supplementary volumes of selections from primary sources, Placher shows himself to be an insightful, judicious
and reliable interpreter of the
tradition and of significant figures
and issues in contemporary debates.

early and mid-20th-century methods known by the Germanic phrases «form criticism,» «
tradition criticism»
and «redaction criticism.»
