The challenges facing rural schools are staggering — concentrated poverty,

care services,
early childhood education and after - school programs, ballooning class size, high transportation costs, teacher shortages, and lack of broadband access.
During ACNJ's visit to Plainfield's
early childhood directors» and family workers» meeting, educators told us about chronic health issues, irregular work and child
care schedules, and
inadequate transportation for young children to get to school.
This means the child has had a significant disruption in his / her
early relationships including, but not limited to; physical and / or emotional abuse or neglect, traumatic loss of a primary
care giver and / or
inadequate care in an out of home placement.
Inadequate early care is an important risk factor in human development for multiple later psychopathologies.
