Early Warnings
The
climate change has visible
signs in Pakistan, which include hotter summers,
early cold spell, monsoon irregularity with untimely rainfall, increased rainfall over short period causing water logging, increased frequency and intensity
of floods — especially recent floods, which destroyed livelihoods in Punjab and Sindh districts — very little rainfall in dry period, crop failure due to drought and salinity intrusion along the coastal region.
Attacking the basic presumption
of change (let alone now reasonably corroborated by ongoing increasing if
early signs of climate shift) is not a case.
Nevertheless, progress is being made exploring the potential existence
of early warning
signs for abrupt
climate change (see e.g., Dakos et al., 2008; Scheffer et al., 2009).
In a similar vein, an Observer poll published
earlier this month found that people from London were most likely to agree that increasing frequency
of extreme weather was a
sign of climate change, while those living in the North West were least likely to agree.
