Creating an
eBook can be
done for minimal moneys and if the author has marketing moxie, can generate revenues quickly... then go (or not) to a print
format.
The business models right now
do not provide significant margin or motivation for developing the
eBook as a
format further in the general trade market.
Then, if you want to remove the watermarks (you don't have to, per se) you can pay a nominal fee and unlock the
ebook version of your manuscript in all the relevant

I am a Nook fan not because of anything Barnes and Noble has

I'd heard stories about
ebooks from reputable indie authors or traditional publishers suffering from
formatting problems, and I didn't want to run into the same issues.

Depending on the level of DRM in any particular
ebook, Calibre is a free application that seems to
do a pretty good job of converting between
formats.

My Android tablet
does a reasonable job of displaying PDF, which is the only

Ebooks are different from print books, so
do not think that you can make your
ebook look like an exact facsimile of print book, otherwise you'll only frustrate yourself by getting a poorly
formatted, unreadable
ebook.

If you can't strip the DRM or the converted
format doesn't work in the reader the person is trying to use, they can always return the
ebook to Amazon for a refund — No risk, really.
But if any element of the resulting
ebook doesn't look how you want or if you want fancier
formatting (images, font or style treatment, etc.), a knowledge of coding or hiring a formatter would be better.
