Overdrive has just signed off
on a deal with publishing giant Penguin, to have 15,000
eBook titles made available to Canadian
libraries.
It is not a surprise that the availability of
eBooks from African
libraries is limited largely to university collections with an emphasis
on streamed scholarly publishing content originating outside the continent.

ebooks and the 2012 expenditures
on ebooks could hit $ 90 million.

Ebook provider ebrary announced this morning that it has now added the Boston
Library Consortium to its growing list of
library systems that rely
on the company to make publishers» titles available for online reading by its member patrons.
While their methods will vary
on how they choose to improve
ebook lending of their titles, only Simon & Schuster remains the only major US publisher that is not releasing its
ebook titles for public
library lending in any way.
Overdrive intends
on releasing a massive amount of metrics based
on all of the schools and
libraries that use their service for the facilitation of
ebook and audiobook lending.
Currently, public
libraries are struggling with trying to implement digital lending, as five of the Big Six publishers are not yet fully
on board with allowing
libraries to include their titles in
ebook lending programs.
