read eBooks.
According to the results of its own
study, ProQuest, the parent company over several divisions that support digital
reading, cited discoverability as one of the most often mentioned factors that prevented respondents from using
ebooks.
While this
study doesn't cover parental or students attitudes toward
ebooks, the Scholastic 2015 Kids and Parents
Reading Report says that 65 % of kids say they'll always want to
read print, up from 60 % in 2012.
In the past year, several research
studies report that
reading on
ebooks may hamper understanding and / or retention of information, especially putting events into a time order.

The Harris Poll also confirmed previous

Study Group presented at the conference shows that in November, 34 % of
ebook purchasers said that they were buying fewer physical books, and by December that number was at 43 %.
When it comes to
eBooks, the demographic difference between young and old readers is just as stark: according to a new
study on digitalbookworld.com, more than half of U.S. kids are
reading eBooks, which is more than double the proportion of adults who are e-
reading.
This offering comes at a time when

read at least one print book last year.
As things got underway at the annual Digital Book World conference in New York, one of the first news items to come was the results of an in - depth
study on the digital
reading habits of some of the youngest
ebook consumers in the marketplace.

Bowker, a company that has released some vital reports on
studies conducted across various aspects of the publishing industry, spoke to GoodEReader at Digital Book World about the staggering growth of
ebooks in the market, the metadata requirements that help a
reading audience find the books that are being produced, and the overall buying and
reading preferences of consumers.
Interestingly, Digital Book World reported on a brief
study conducted in 2011 that showed that while children preferred to
read identical content in electronic form over paper with the same level of comprehension, the level of recall actually was less when comparing an enhanced
ebook to a standard digital edition.
According to the Intellectual Property Office's latest
study of online copyright infringement, 17 % of
ebooks read online in the UK are pirated — around 4m books.
In fact, further halting the market,
studies began to emerge that showed students at various ages and grade levels did not produce the expected increase in
reading comprehension and improvement after using the much - touted
ebooks.

A recent Bowker
study, mentioned in the article, does seem to say that many Japanese readers aren't interested in
ebooks, but, again, this makes little sense as Japanese readers have pioneered a new form of digital
reading: scanning your own books and
reading them digitally.
Among the 27 % of teens who
read ebooks, the
study did not find a strong preference for print or electronic format: 37 % prefer print books, 29 % prefer
ebooks, and 34 % have no format preference.
