Internal medicine consults: We offer in - hospital referrals to an internal medicine specialist who performs abdominal and
echocardiograph ultrasounds, and helps us with the diagnosis of more complicated cases.
Other tests that your veterinarian or a cardiac specialist might perform are
echocardiograph (doppler ultrasound) to see the heart perform in real time, and an EKG to check if the electrical system of the heart is functioning normally.
Radiograph and
echocardiograph (ultrasound) imaging will be more useful for visually examining the heart for enlargement or thickening of the walls, or for thickening of the mitral valve (which controls the flow of blood between the left ventricle and the left atrium).
