economic class applicants to maintain their status and continue working in Canada while they await a final decision on their permanent residence application.

To be eligible for a bridging open work permit, the
applicants must currently be in Canada on a valid work permit that is due to expire within 4 months and must have received confirmation from CIC that their permanent resident application is eligible under one of the four
Economic Classes.
In the meantime qualified
applicants can expect faster processing times of six months or less when invited to come to Canada in four key
economic streams: the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, Canadian Experience
Class, and a portion of the PNP.
Applicants who want to apply for Canadian Permanent Residency through the
Economic Class will need to input their information into the Express Entry system.
