Class fares really are very good indeed — especially the

One big change happened a couple years ago when Alaska
did limit the companion
fare to itineraries booked in
economy class.
but then I'll kick myself if I don't book the Premium
Economy fare and I end up paying $ 900 to sit in cargo
class without an upgrade!

Economy Class fares and discounted Business
Class fares — if you book the more expensive
fares then you're in luck and you'll be
doing just fine.
With only 4 systemwide upgrades available per year, from 2017 onwards, buying discount
Economy Class fares with the idea of upgrading them to Business
Class won't work for someone who travels as much as I
do — especially if I'm traveling with Joanna — so I need to come up with a way to get around this issue.
Just like Malaysia Airlines, the cheapest
Economy Class fares on Royal Jordanian don't earn any EQD at all.
I can't say that I'd bother checking this route for
Economy Class seats if I wanted to fly to China (there are enough uncomfortable ways for me to
do that straight out of LA) but I'd definitely be interested in trying out the Business
Class product — I'll keep my eyes on
fares and see if anything interesting comes up.
