I
did find some open seats on ANA's website but they were mixed - class
fares with
economy being the long leg.
If you're going to only save $ 50 or less roundtrip, basic
economy fares probably aren't worth the savings — unless you know for sure that you can travel with the carry - on restrictions and don't need the additional frequent flyer benefits and upgrades.
Normally I would simply book the cheapest
fare I could find that didn't leave me in a cramped seat with just 30 ″ of seat pitch — this usually means booking
Economy Class with a oneworld airline where my status allows me to select an exit row seat at the time of booking — but that's not what I
did this time.
You have to call to see if your
fare qualifies, but if it
does, the rate is comparable to the difference between
economy and upper class seats on the general award chart.
$ 858 is less than is often quoted for a roundtrip

fare between London and LA, the flights didn't require us to position into Europe, and we had lie - flat seats on the return leg — essentially we booked what we set out to book.
Premium cabin travel doesn't have to be horrifically expensive nor
does it have to be purchased with a loyalty currency (Avios) if you're to get a good deal — you can easily pay more for
Economy Class
fares to some of these cities so these Business Class
fares really are very good indeed — especially the
fare to Los Angeles.
Even though Delta
does sell Delta Comfort + as its own
fare class it is not a premium
economy product in my opinion.

I've been on the look out for good
fares since the beginning of August and, while American
did post a somewhat tempting

fare from London back in September, the Business Class
fares out of Europe have come nowhere near what I'm prepared to pay....

fare is only eligible for
economy fares, it usually doesn't cost much more to buy one eligible for an instant upgrade.
Delta doesn't yet offer Basic
Economy fares on its Seattle — Hong Kong route so the
fare being quoted is for a Main Cabin

With only 4 systemwide upgrades available per year, from 2017 onwards, buying discount
Economy Class
fares with the idea of upgrading them to Business Class won't work for someone who travels as much as I
do — especially if I'm traveling with Joanna — so I need to come up with a way to get around this issue.
Just like Malaysia Airlines, the cheapest
Economy Class
fares on Royal Jordanian don't earn any EQD at all.
There is nothing passengers can
do about a lot of these United Airlines Basic
Economy fare rules but there are some United Airlines co-branded cards that will help out with things like the hand baggage allowance and the boarding order.
I can't say that I'd bother checking this route for
Economy Class seats if I wanted to fly to China (there are enough uncomfortable ways for me to
do that straight out of LA) but I'd definitely be interested in trying out the Business Class product — I'll keep my eyes on
fares and see if anything interesting comes up.
Worse still, the discounted
Economy Class
fares booked through partners don't earn the 1 EQM / mile flown like they
do if they're booked through American — these
fares earn just 0.5 EQM / mile flown.
Level will offer 6
fare classes: Basic
Economy offers a flight from A to B with 1 piece of handluggage and you'll pay extra for seat assignment, food and checked luggage, but
do earn (some) Avios award miles.
Many of the lowest
economy fares (that I'd consider competitive with other carriers) don't earn any StarAlliance miles and often few even in KrisFlyer.
However, these
economy class
fares do not come with a seat assignment immediately.
So how
do award tickets work now that airlines offer a category of
fares cheaper than regular
economy?
You can
do a minimum of three and a maximum of 15 stopovers for each
fare and they can be booked in your desired cabin of service including premium
economy where applicable.
They will also have access to Thomas Cook's mobile in - flight entertainment service, Sunstream, although the
Economy PLUS
fare does not include extra leg room.
You can
do this is by purchasing an upgradeable seat ticket or premium
economy fare and then use your accumulated points / miles to get into first class / business class.
These lower Upper Class
fares will enable small and medium - sized businesses in particular to
do deals and meet contacts around the world and help get the global
economy moving again.»
