To sum up: I wouldn't pay for the Business Class cabin, you'd have to pay me to sit in a regular
Economy Class
seat leaving Premium

The 787 - 9 Dreamliner offers

We already know that Cathay will be following the herd as it reconfigures its 777 - 300

Economy Class — so that's the end of comfort in Cathay Pacific's
Economy Class cabin — and recent rumors have suggested that the airline would introduce «buy
on board» meals
on its short - haul flights while, at the same time, giving up
on the idea of offering «dine
on demand» in Business Class.
if you're not booking directly into the premium cabin I would also make sure that you secure a Main Cabin Extra
seat as soon as possible (or possibly even actively avoid this
aircraft if you can't book an MCE
seat on it)-- the
Economy Class
seats don't look like ones I'd like to find myself in.
Virgin's 787 - 9
aircraft have just 35 Premium
Economy seats onboard so the addition of a third daily service to / from Los Angeles will be boosting the number of Premium
Economy seats available
on the route quite substantially... and that should be good news for reward redemptions which have, historically, been quite challenging to find.
When you consider that the Business Class layout and
seats look very similar to what Etihad has
on its 777 - 300ER
aircraft and that even the
Economy Class
seats come with foot rests, USB sockets, power outlets and large screen entertainment systems, then this doesn't look like an out - of - date airline at all.
It's also worth noting that Virgin Australia offers 32 ″ of leg room and 18.5 ″ of
seat width in its 777 - 300ER
Economy Class cabin compared to Etihad's 31 ″ of leg room and 17.5 ″ of

I had more leg room than I had ever seen

One big advantage that the Dreamliner has is that it offers personal screens for each
Economy Class
seat while the antiquated 767 - 300 still inflicts overhead screens
on the entire cabin — nice for those who like a retro feel to their
aircraft, not so nice for those who like to travel in a little bit of comfort.
The Virgin Atlantic Dreamliner has fewer Premium
Economy and Upper Class
seats than both the A330 and A340
aircraft so I suspect this won't do much for award availability
on this route.
The KLM 787 - 9 comes equipped with overwater wi - fi and all the
seats in the
aircraft have good - size touch - screen entertainment screens (11 ″ in
Economy Class & 16 ″ in Business Class) so viewing the entertainment
on offer shouldn't be an issue.
Now, I'm more than happy to accept that the
seat on an
aircraft isn't the be all and end all of a flight experience but are Global Traveler's readers seriously claiming that service in United's TPAC
Economy Class is better than that offered by Korean, Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific?!
The Dreamliner has 39 more MCE
seats than the 767 and, with
Economy Class
on both
aircraft offering a disappointing 31 ″ of
seat pitch, the more MCE
seats available the better.
The introduction of the 777 - 300ER in place of the Airbus A330 - 300 won't have a monument effect
on passengers as both
aircraft feature Cathay Pacific's reverse herringbone Business Class
seats and both offer Premium
Economy.
Having said that, the
seat pitch of 41 ″ is an increase of 3 ″ over their existing product and now matches the pitch of Air New Zealand's premium
economy on their 777 - 200
aircraft.
The «all - new» premium
economy seat will launch
on the Airbus A350
aircraft in February 2016, alongside the new business class
seat, and it looks to be a significant improvement
on the current
seat.
Unless you manage to book one of the exit row
seats you'll find yourself limited to just 31 ″ of
