Parents, therefore, must ensure for themselves that each school will provide their children with necessary
special education accommodations and communicate with them about how their children are progressing.
To their credit, K12 schools do generally exceed district schools along one demographic measure: special education; though this is likely explained by the difficulty many students face in the public school system while fighting for
special education accommodations.
Some parents are relieved because a diagnosis of a disability can qualify a child to receive special
education accommodations and special instruction under an Individualized Education Plan.
