Young scientists today are engaged
in improving graduate and postdoctoral
education, making science more hospitable to women and minorities, and interacting with Congress on
issues of
funding and professional development.
Activities supported by the
Fund include the AAAS Science and Human Rights Coalition's Student Essay, Poster, and Digital Media Competitions; efforts to promote the integration of human rights into STEM
education; technical training of human rights practitioners
in innovative applications of science and technology; collaborative partnerships between scientists, engineers and human rights organizations; and policy engagement on
issues at the nexus of science and human rights.

Responsive to the needs of the community, the AAS reviews and
issues small research and travel grants (sponsored by the AAS, NASA, and the NSF), holds town meetings with agency representatives, and has recently demonstrated its leadership
in preparing The American Astronomical Society's Examination of Graduate
Education in Astronomy (
funded by the NSF; AAS, 1997).

in support of the efforts of the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services,
Education, and Related Agencies to increase
funding for the National Institutes of Health
in the coming fiscal year:
It supports and inspires efforts that create and expand new frontiers for the benefit of humanity by
funding innovative solutions to critical global
issues in the areas of science and technology, the environment,
education, and humanitarian advances.
Chapters take on a variety of work, including: Regularly scheduled events for the public to discuss public
education, school board candidate forums, monitoring school board meetings, translating proposed school board policies into other languages for various language groups, providing tours of schools for prospective students and families, working for adequate
funding for public schools, engaging with bond elections, helping parents navigate enrollment policies, and
in general, being involved
in the
issues of public schools
in their communities.
Provided through the
Education Funding Agency, CIF is designed to address health and safety
issues in school buildings, as well as supporting expansion projects and efforts to improve energy efficiency.
And every fall since 2001, the
Education Trust, a national organization devoted to closing the achievement gap
in our public schools, has
issued «The
Funding Gap» report, also ranking states by the equity of their K - 12 finance systems.
