The final reports from Bridgeport's November 2012
education reform referendum are in and it turns out that the corporate education reform industry and its supporters spent at least $ 562,955.16 in their effort to pass Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch's anti-democracy initiative, a proposal that would have eliminated the City's democratically elected board of education and replaced it with one appointed by the mayor.

The process that culminated in the 2011
referendum not only saw a significant amount of institutions sprout and bloom as major actors in favour of electoral
reform, but also served as a course of
education for voters unfamiliar with alternative methods of voting.
In Michigan, where legislative action on school
reform has been put on hold until questions of funding equity have been settled, voters will face two ballot
referenda — each with a different sales - tax equation — that could add new funds to the
education coffers.
In Idaho, they fought to get on the November ballot three
referenda that, if passed, will annihilate Superintendent Tom Luna's sweeping
reform efforts that could bring about a quality
education for all students in the state.
Whether voters saw the race as a
referendum on
education reform or a vote of confidence in an incumbent, Torlakson will remain the primary voice on
education in California for another four years.
