Despite decades of relying on standardized
test scores to
assess and guide
education policy and practice, surprisingly little work has been done to connect these measures of learning with the measures developed over a century of research by cognitive psychologists studying individual differences in cognition.

Education Union, said that in the context of the «ongoing crisis in teacher recruitment and retention», the government would be «well - advised to consult with teacher training institutions, and take a hard look at whether the
tests are
assessing skills of a kind which it is absolutely essential for teachers to attain».

education reform more generally, underwrites, intentionally or not, the conservative assumptions of the
