Willem de Rooij's sound installation Illulissat relies too much on contextual information to be convincing; without the text explicitly referring to Mondrian's Lighthouse at Westkapelle and Bas Jan Ader's ocean travels all you're left with is
the eerie sound of sleigh hounds.

eerie feeling they used to have with the games, like if you played an older RE game with headphones on chance were you would get scared at some point or at least pumped up for what was waiting around the next corner, however Revelations did not manage to do this to me this time around which was kind
of a let down but nothing really game - breaking.
The over-expository story told to you by floating heads via radio, the confusing (for my age) plot, the meta nature
of the game where you have to look at the back
of game's case to find a Codec frequency or, similarly, look at a girl's ass to figure out her disguise, the
eerie existence
of Psycho Mantis, his goddamn ominous theme, plus all the ambient
sounds within the game itself — it was just so full
of moments that all seemed like isolated but big events, like remembering scenes and elements from a film.
Now throw in the amazingly
eerie soundtrack and
sound effects and you got yourself a beautiful experience ahead
of you.
Coupled with its
eerie atmosphere and creepy aesthetics (the run down and flickering setting
of Rapture combined with the spliced out enemies sets a statement tone from the game's inception), Bioshock's
sound enhances the overall experience.
Most
of the
sound is carried over from the All - Stars version as well, though there are some new pieces
of music added as well, such as a slightly carnival - like tune played inside
of the jars found throughout, or the
eerie tune that lets you know a mini-boss lurks nearby, before kicking into the full boss theme for the battle itself.
Each spirit has their own characteristics and will make
eerie sounds when they come out
of hiding, with some attacking you head - on.
There's more to contend with than
eerie sights and
sounds,
of course.
The music does a better job at setting the tone providing an
eerie backdrop
of sound to the gameplay with tracks that are clearly modeled after the haunting soundscapes Akira Yamaoka provided to the Silent Hill games.
