Throughout my lessons I integrate

strategies in phonemic awareness, to provide ELLs various scaffolding techniques that are beneficial in improving sight word automaticity, vocabulary knowledge, and syntactic awareness in reading
comprehension.
Comprehension strategies, such as, asking
effective questions and making connections will be highlighted through the use of picture books.
An
effective strategy for word
comprehension and vocabulary building is to become familiar with frequently - used roots.
However, observations also indicated an increase in
comprehension skill instruction rather than
comprehension strategy instruction, although the latter has been found to be the most
effective approach for increasing reading achievement (NRP, 2000).
