Nice cinematography by Roger Deakins (The Shawshank Redemption, A Beautiful Mind) and a subdued but
effective score by James Newton Howard (The Fugitive, The Devil's Advocate) add to the feeling of dread.
There's a sparse but
effective score by classic rocker Neil Young, and a good supporting cast of recognizable actors in the mix to liven things up.
In fact, the whole film feels like one big stand - off as each of the characters continuously suss one another out before it eventually culminates in true Tarantino fashion.With the opening landscapes and the poundingly
effective score by Ennio Morricone you could be fooled into thinking that Quentin is out to emulate the classic spaghetti westerns of Sergio Leone but this is really where the comparison ends.
It sports a solid soundtrack, good location shots (set in Santa Cruz), nice cinematography from Michael Chapman (The Last Waltz, Taxi Driver), and
an effective score by veteran Thomas Newman (Revenge of the Nerds, The Shawshank Redemption).
As mentioned before, the film impresses visually (Like Ken Loach doing «The Body Snatchers») and is bolstered by
an effective score by newcomer Mica Levi that quite literally gets under your skin.

Only the ambient hum of a highly unconventional,

score by The The could count as a standout element of a thriller that otherwise borrows relentlessly from the recent past.
Deservedly winner of the Best Director gong at this year's Cannes Film Festival, Nicholas Winding Refn makes Los Angeles look as beautiful as it's ever been without using any tourist traps, and the adaptation from the James Sallis novel
by Hossein Amini (who also adapted the dark Jude and The Wings of a Dove) is beautifully done, even if some of the music (largely an
effective ambient / electro
score) is a little on - the - nose.
All of these are rich and
effective and are complimented well
by the unconventional
score.
Veteran Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto, aided
by guitarist Bryce Dessner and electronica artist Alva Noto, haunts those minutes with a slight, but eerily
effective musical
score.
And it's a shame that misgivings about its final scenes threaten to overwhelm what is otherwise an undeniably satisfying and suspenseful chamber drama bolstered
by punishingly
effective sound design, an often menacing
score from Bear McCreary and excellent leading turns from Mary Elizabeth Winstead and John Goodman.
«Eating» is the film's most notorious sequence, and was I imagine very hard to
score well, but Howard did so, musically conveying a range of emotions, using synth pan flutes to provide the inevitable,
effective awkward feeling underpinning the longing and desire represented
by the flute and violin parts.
While there are plenty of attempts at ordinary dialogue - based and over-the-top physical humor, it's the moments of pure elegance and drama that, accompanied
by a soothingly
effective score, make this film memorable.
Scored by Danny Bensi and Saunder Jurriaans («Martha Marcy May Marlene» and «Simon Killer»), their simple, mildly eerie, yet
effective work also adds some incredibly layered levels of mood and poignant texture.
«The Snowman» does boast two very
effective elements — spectacular cinematography
by Dion Beebe and a brilliant
score by Marco Beltrami.
It's a vibe that's perpetuated
by everything from Roy Webb's lush
score to Ted Tetzlaff's gorgeous cinematography to the uniformly
effective performances, with, in terms of the latter, Grant and Bergman's chemistry together ensuring that one can't help but root for their characters» triumph over Rains» nefarious (yet somewhat sympathetic) Sebastian.

While Danish cinematographer Dan Laustsen lenses Allerdale Hall in swampy greens and fiery reds (a tribute to Italian filmmaker Mario Bava), some of Crimson Peak's most
effective tension - cranking scenes are

by composer Fernando Velázquez, but the monotonous pumping of an industrial clay machine.
As the

by - the - notes bonding between the two kids as they must make their way home from the untamed wilderness, the Dannas conjure
