If the Liberal Democrats can ensure that their party structures operate so as to allow a clear voice to come
through, they have every chance of putting forward a distinctive
manifesto at the next
election - one that will, in all likelihood, put it closer to a reformed Labour Party, should the Alternative Vote deliver another hung parliament.
All three of Westminster's mainstream parties supported such a move in their 2010 general
election manifestos and will not stand in the way of the bill as it progresses
through the Commons.
