Leaked Liberal speakers notes from July 2012 say the Liberals would «work with industry to reduce impediments to [energy] investment», as well as «streamlining approval requirements and procedures», «merging wherever possible State and Federal Government requirements», and «delivering more certainty to
the electricity generation sector».
Minnesota's massive investment in wind power has reduced CO2 emissions from
the electricity generation sector slightly, but that reduction has been below average compared with the nation as a whole.
As seen in
the electricity generation sector, these policies are likely to have a direct and significant impact on the fuel choices made by individual countries, including a shift away from coal as CO2 costs rise.
The Australian government has announced that greenhouse gas emissions fell 0.2 per cent in 2012, mostly due to lower greenhouse gas emissions from
the electricity generation sector, despite growth in real GDP of 3.4 per cent over the same period.
Anyone still banging on about CO2 emissions in
the electricity generation sector, ought to be banging on about nothing other than nuclear power.
However, recent regulations from the Environmental Protection Agency under the Clean Air Act threaten to upend the competitive markets that guarantee just and reasonable wholesale rates in many parts of the U.S. Those organized wholesale markets are based on using the least - cost generation to satisfy demand, whereas the EPA continues to impose tighter and more complex environmental constraints on
the electricity generation sector.
Third, the likely change from internal combustion engines to electric vehicles in the transportation sector also effectively links transportation, and its fuel use, to
the electricity generation sector and its fuel use (renewable or fossil fuel based).
Co-author Dr Iain Staffell, from the Centre for Environmental Policy, said: «This tool allows us to combat one of the biggest uncertainties in the future energy system, and use real data to answer questions such as how electricity storage could revolutionise
the electricity generation sector, or when high - capacity home storage batteries linked to personal solar panels might become cost - effective.»
It sees coal as remaining dominant in
the electricity generation sector: global consumption will rise by 1.3 percent a year — from 147 quadrillion British thermal units of energy in 2010 to 180 quadrillion Btu in 2020 to 220 quadrillion Btu in 2040.

The team also assessed scenarios in the transportation and
electricity generation sectors, including increased cycling and walking in London and Delhi, India.
There are strong mitigation potentials in the building, industry, transport and
electricity generation sectors.
Not exact matches
But there is another interesting aspect to this phenomenon: How that shrinking pie is getting divvied up among the various
sectors of
electricity generation.
The private -
sector group's initial investments will target
electricity generation and storage, transportation, industrial use, agriculture and energy efficiency.
My January and April posts on the Ontario
electricity sector described how decisions by different Ontario governments gave rise to excess
electricity generation with an inflated cost structure, leading to higher
electricity prices.
They find that coal accounts for 95 % of GED in this
sector (though it also accounts for the largest percentage of total power
generation), and coal power has the highest GED per kilowatt - hour (kWh) of
electricity generated (though as noted in Table 2, petroleum has a higher GED / VA ratio).

The approval, which will allow government to invest in the mini-grid
sector, is expected to increase the country's renewable energy
generation capacity to achieve price reduction in
electricity.
Key among NDC's 2016 manifesto promises in the
sector includes increasing the stock of power
generation assets, developing more sustainable power sources, encouraging energy conservation, increasing
generation capacity in excess of 5,000 MW by 2021 and achieving universal access to
electricity by 2025.
Alongside
electricity generation, the transportation
sector is the largest emitter of pollutants produced by the burning of fossil fuels.
Substantively, she said, the covered
sectors pull their weight in terms of contributions to climate change: Cement is responsible for fully half of the country's CO2 emissions, and 85 percent of China's
electricity generation is coal - fired.
They made comparisons within the five
sectors they studied — power plants, furnaces, exports for
electricity generation overseas, buses and cars — and across
sectors to see which use of natural gas pays the greatest dividend for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Emissions across nearly all
sectors grew in 2013, with increased GHG emissions from
electricity generation, more vehicle miles traveled on the nation's roadways and greater industrial production, according to the EPA.
Other economically important
sectors —
electricity generation, for example — are starting to do their bit.
If I understand the above calculation correctly, it would seem that, in the
electricity sector, we could mostly concentrate on meeting additional demand with efficiency and carbon neutral
generation (and avoid some of the fights associated with replacing existing coal
generation plants); but if we need to reduce emissions by 80 % by 2050, then I am not sure whether this makes sense.
Scientists say
electricity generation is responsible for one - quarter of the world's total CO2 emissions — the main cause of global warming — and U.S. power plants account for fully 25 percent of the emissions generated by the power
sector worldwide.
I have often imposed on the moderators» patience by noting the rapid growth of solar and wind energy for
electricity generation, which for me gives rise to optimism that we can eliminate GHG emissions from that
sector much more quickly than many people believe.
These increasingly important roles for natural gas in the
electricity sector call for a detailed analysis of the interdependencies of the natural gas and power
generation infrastructures.
Chances are much higher for countries to agree to cooperate on a menu of climate - friendly initiatives, say, within particular
sectors like
electricity generation or manufacturing aluminum.
But, as the Keeling Curve shows, these processes are not capable of keeping up with fossil fuel emissions from the
electricity generation and transportation
sectors.
The PCAP focuses primarily on the
electricity generation portion of our energy system, and does not have enough concrete goals when it pertains to the transportation
sector.
Cases with higher or lower world energy prices, represented by oil prices, have relatively little direct impact on power -

sectors are household energy use, urban land transport,
electricity generation, and food and agriculture.
The first projects using floating wind turbines are also now entering into operation, based on concepts widely deployed in the offshore oil and gas
sector; cost - competitive floating technologies would widen the economic resource base for offshore
electricity generation considerably.
Then, the final report of the G20 High - Level Panel for Infrastructure Investment reinforces the call for MDBs to catalyze regional investment in the energy
sector — particularly in
electricity generation, transmission, and distribution.
Two thirds of new US
electricity generation capacity were from the wind
sector in October.

CanWEA has long supported that new supply needs in Ontario be competitively sought from affordable, non-emitting
generation to maintain low greenhouse gas emissions in the
electricity sector in the medium - to long - term while keeping costs in check.

sector: buildings, transportation, industries, and
electricity generation.
