A stormy weekend led to free
electricity in Germany as wind generation reached a record, forcing power
producers to pay customers the most since Christmas 2012 to
use electricity.
These include warm summer weather, which drives up
use of air conditioners and
electricity, the increased popularity of natural gas (versus coal) among power
producers (partly reflecting the low price of the former), and cutbacks in production by some players in the natural - gas industry.
Existing technologies allow oil
producers who can not pump the natural gas into a pipeline to simply reinject it back underground,
use it to generate
electricity or, by installing a so - called Fischer — Tropsch conversion system, change the former nuisance gas into liquid fuel, among other options.

Wind farm operators, or solar power
producers could
use such as system to even out their power production rates and so command a higher price for their
electricity.
Such a reform would incorporate the «priority connection» rule, in which the priority is given to power
producers using renewable energy to connect to power transmission grids, and the «priority dispatching» rule, in which
electricity generated
using renewable energy is supplied first, before
electricity generated from other sources of energy.
And while biofuels and
electricity producers are cleaning up, the oil industry should do the same, reducing avoidable emissions, avoiding the dirtiest sources of oil, and preventing the oil we do
use from getting worse.
