But the Swedish aviation experts didn't stop there, upgrading the 2.0 - liter engine with
electronic boost control not long after.
The steering wheel has mounted buttons that control the drag reduction system and
electronic boost functions, for added convenience.
It also has both port and direct fuel injection, individual cylinder ignition timing, variable intake - and exhaust - valve timing, and
electronic boost control.
Maximum boost pressure was set at 23psi, while the engine also benefits from a plug - and - play ECU upgrade, which changes injection and ignition mapping, and
electronic boost pressure control.
What we do know is that while both will have turbocharged 2.0 - liter inline - four engines, they will both get two turbochargers instead of one, and the RS will get an instant -
torque electronic boost system on top of that.
Guys please keep in mind that with the
complex electronic boost control that this engine is using 22 PSI would only be the peak number and would not mean it will run it through the entire RPM range.
A dual - volute turbocharger
with electronic boost control sourced from BorgWarner uniquely sends high - pressure exhaust gas through opposite sides of the turbocharger housing to spin the turbine.
This upgrade boosts power and torque for the twin - turbocharged 4.0 - litre V8 to 691bhp and 701 lb ft respectively - the standard model delivers 603bhp and 664 lb ft.. The upgrades are largely down to a software rewrite for the engine management system, which includes revised injection and ignition maps, and a recalibration of
the electronic boost pressure control.
An electronic boost gauge that reads from 1.0 bar vacuum to 1.5 bar of pressure is located on the left side of the instrument panel.
The engine gets upgrades to handle the boost, including forged pistons, rods and crankshaft, a custom cam, ported cylinder heads, fuel system upgrades,
an electronic boost controller, an air - to - air intercooler, a stainless steel exhaust and HPE engine calibration.
It will be replaced by a specially designed engine intake manifold and fed by twin - ball - bearing turbochargers with stainless - steel inlet piping, dual wastegates,
electronic boost controller, an air - to - air intercooler, and dual K&N air filters.
