Using mtDNA, the researchers identified other Namibian
elephant migration patterns; for example, elephants from the Ugab River catchment shared mtDNA with elephants from the Huab River catchment, from where they are said to have migrated.
Throughout her career, Dr. Gross has also taken opportunities to study and work on
elephants in the wild, completing an expedition to track
migration patterns in Africa as well as research on behavior and vocalizations in Nepal.
