Last week, Hyatt announced that starting this year, award nights would count towards
elite night requirements.

Before this change, only fully paid
nights and
nights booked with cash & points rates would count toward the necessary
requirements to earn
elite status with World of Hyatt.
Perhaps best of all, reservations booked through Fine Hotels and Resorts do count toward
elite stay and
night requirements with Hyatt, meaning I earned not only Mlife and Hyatt Gold Passport points for the stay, but also a critical notch toward maintaining my Diamond status for 2017.

While this is a very generous promotion from Marriott (and considerably more interesting than their latest global promotion) it's worth noting that the double
elite qualifying
nights have only succeeded in bringing Marriott's
elite status
requirements down to what other hotel loyalty programs have as standard.
Concierge status requires 75
elite qualifying
nights, so you won't be able to hit the qualification
requirements with this promotion alone.
Silver, Gold and Diamond members will be able to rollover
nights earned beyond their current
elite tier
requirements to count towards their
elite tier status the following year.
If Hyatt really wanted to do something nice for its members, they could change the qualifying
nights requirement back to what it was pre-2017 under the old Hyatt Gold Passport program when 50
nights (or 25 stays) earned top - tier
elite status.
You also earn credit towards Starwood
elite status each year (5
nights and 2 stays towards the
requirements) and you get free in - room internet at participating locations.
Marriott Platinum status is one of the highest top - tier hotel
elite status
requirements out there, at 75
nights.
