Both the
email (POP, IMAP, Exchange) and Gmail clients have two
panes, one for viewing the contents of your inbox and another for
reading the current message.
Click through to an
email and the display shifts left, so you then get a
reading pane for your selected
email.
This way folks with image blocking on who scan
emails in their preview
panes can immediately
read your announcement, which will make it even more likely that they'll display the images included with the message.
When you have the
Reading Pane view open in Outlook, you are able to see the text of each
email in the
Reading Pane as you click on it in your inbox.
You can also write a quick reply to an
email from within the
Reading Pane, without actually opening the
email and then opening the reply
email.
