AKC Reunite is North America's largest not for profit pet ID and
recovery service, providing microchipping and ID services as well as a national
recovery database to safely return dogs home should they get lost and, through AKC Pet Disaster Relief, helping local
Emergency Management to provide
animal care services immediately following disasters.
DAR's mission is to develop and implement preparedness, response, and
recovery plans necessary to protect the health, safety, and welfare of domestic
animals, and the people who own or have responsibility for
animals during
emergencies and disasters.
The guidelines consist of recommendations for preoperative care (eg, patient transport and housing, patient selection, client communication, record keeping, and medical considerations), anesthetic management (eg, equipment, monitoring, perioperative considerations, anesthetic protocols, and
emergency preparedness), surgical care (eg, operating - area environment; surgical - pack preparation; patient preparation; surgeon preparation; surgical procedures for pediatric, juvenile, and adult patients; and identification of neutered
animals), and postoperative care (eg, analgesia,
recovery, and release).
IF an
emergency is needed, a quick diagnosis is made to help the
animal quickly so we are on the road to
recovery.
Stormy will be undergoing
emergency care and though it will be a long road, the caretakers at Almost Home
Animal Haven are hopeful that hewill make a full
recovery.
