If the money is in a shoebox under your bed and isn't in some way transferable to you,
then there's no way for it to help you, and that kind of defeats the
purpose of an
emergency fund, doesn't it?
If this is for the
purpose of building an
Emergency Fund,
then FDs + Liquid fund can be considered.
The rule of thumb is one or two credit cards for daily activity and
then another credit card for
emergency purposes only.
If you are only driving your car for
emergency purposes or for the occasional visit to family and friends,
then you may be happy to choose a pay - as - you - go or short term policy.
If it does not,
then during medical
emergencies, you may end up bearing a major chunk of the medical expenses, thus defeating the very
purpose of a good health insurance plan.
