Global carbon
emissions from burning fossil fuels did not grow in 2015 and are projected to rise only slightly in 2016, marking three years of almost no growth, according to researchers at the University of East Anglia (UEA) and the Global Carbon Project.

Global warming due to mankind's greenhouse - gas
emissions from burning fossil fuels already affects the Indian monsoon and — if unabated — is expected to
do even more so in the future.
-- How much
do rich countries that, to a significant extent, built their wealth
burning fossil fuels, owe poor ones to help them grow without creating a vast new pulse of
emissions from fuel burning?
Furthermore,
emissions estimates discussed here include only those
from fossil fuels burned within a country's borders, meaning that the tallies
do not account for international trade.
In all three cases it is easy to know what nature
does: a net source, a net sink or a huge sink, simply by substracting the calculated
emissions of
fossil fuel burning from what is measured in the atmosphere.
The climate science is clear: sequestering carbon in land - based ecosystems, such as forests,
does not «neutralize»
emissions from the
burning of
fossil fuels.
In 2016, CO2
emissions from fossil fuel burning decreased by 2 percent in the U.S. and Russia and 1 percent in Japan, but increased 5 percent in India, which doesn't yet show signs of decoupling growth
from emissions.
And at the heart of the matter is our dependence on
fossil fuels and how the idea of stabilizing our

«What Salby
does not explain is this: total human

Perhaps the most important issue in all this is, as the Royal Society pointed out in their assessment of geoengineering, the first and foremost thing we have to
do to stop climate change is radically limit greenhouse gas
emissions resulting
from human activity — stopping
burning fossil fuels and stopping deforestation are at the top of list for how to
do that.
