Creative writing in schools gets very mixed treatment: while it is privileged at key stage 2 and, to a certain extent, at key stage 3, it usually receives less attention at key stage 4 and almost none at key stage 5 (though there are signs of change here with a renewed
emphasis on recreative
writing as an A Level coursework option).
