an employee adopts a rescue dog.

With that many
dogs and cats to
rescue, nurture and hopefully get
adopted, there's no question that a little piece of each of the dedicated
employees and volunteers will be instilled in every one of the animals in some way, shape or form.
From the perspective of both a shelter
employee and a
rescue mom, I can not stress enough how wonderful it is to have a program that helps the newly
adopted dog adapt to life in their new home with an approach that is completely positive and proactive.
I think this is one of the most troubling aspects of the way
rescue is going: their determination to «save» every
dog, no matter how troubling its behaviors and without regard to its breed, is leading to shelter
employees and volunteers who are essentially brainwashed by constant contact with unstable, abnormally anxious and aggressive
dogs, who are now the majority of
dogs in most shelters and certainly the vast majority of those who are not
adopted quickly, ie, the ones
employees have the most contact with.
This past Monday, we shared the joy of saving lives through fostering and
adopting with 140 + Discovery Channel
employees while they snuggled with 10
dogs from 3 different
rescue groups.
And that's the reason why Scottish brewery Brewdog has come up with a rather unusual
employee benefit — one week's paid leave for all
employees that
adopt a puppy or
rescue a
dog.
