I have been an advocate for
student and teacher
empowerment throughout my career
in PreK through the university level
of education
in face - to - face, blended, and virtual
classrooms.
The continuum ranges from inclusion to
empowerment, and what drives coursework up the scale is generally the amount
of control
students have over the learning experience
in their
classroom.
However we define
empowerment, there is agreement that more
student involvement
in what takes place
in classrooms and schools is a good and necessary thing, promoting higher levels
of motivation and better preparing
students to succeed
in school, college, career, and life.
Connecticut has emerged as a national leader and example for the
empowerment of teachers and
students in our social studies
classrooms.
