Having graduated with a B.F.A. in drawing, oil painting and photography, she continued her
studies in a variety of media including fresco, egg tempera, digital embroidery and
encaustic.
With a degree in Elementary Education she has taught art professionally in the classroom and continues to teach art workshops in the greater St. Louis area and around the U.S. Largely self - taught in a variety of mixed media techniques, Julie has
studied encaustic intensively since 2004 and is a Core Support Instructor for R&F Handmade Paints.

The work is demonstrative — Marden deploys an
encaustic technique that borrows from Jasper Johns, who was an important early influence when Marden was
studying at Yale and, later, when he was a security guard at the Jewish Museum.
