Yin / Yang Yoga is the marriage of two seemingly opposite styles of yoga - yin yoga which
encourages deep stretching and stillness in longer held poses, with yang - active, dynamic postures.

It's a beautiful way to bring the week to a close as we breathe together, assume gentle and challenging poses, laugh a little, moan a little,
encourage one another and enjoy the pleasure of
deep stretches.
However, there are other benefits to
stretching and flexibility that go way beyond reducing muscle soreness — it turns out your yoga instructor may be on to something when they
encourage you to reach a little farther or
stretch a little
deeper.
So save your
stretching for after
deep - tissue and mobility work with a foam roller (or lacrosse ball, tennis ball, golf ball, etc.), which will actually
encourage release of the muscle knots.
The only reason people assume
deeper stretches in a Bikram yoga class is because the unqualified dipshit teaching the class is
encouraging people to overstretch themselves and put their joints, ligaments and capsules in a potentially disastrous state of looseness, instability and hypermobility.
