To top that off there's
no endgame boss or anything signaling the end of the game.
In my case, I only had to grind significantly during several
endgame bosses, so at least DQVIII is fair in character progression.

In the grander context of the series, this game is usually considered the most difficult of the bunch, mostly thanks to its absolutely dreadful
endgame crawl and a final
boss who can and will use a spell that restores every last one of his HP.
You'll need this if you want to play through all the tougher
endgame optional
bosses; thankfully, they're never forced on you.
Unfortunately these
bosses are pretty difficult if you're not at least approaching
endgame in terms of level and equipment, and the first one, in particular, left many Assassin's Creed Origins players frustrated and unable to complete it.
Not only that, a new
Endgame activity called Escalation Protocol has been added, which is a player triggered event where players fight escalating waves of enemies and slay challenging
bosses right alongside their friends.
The
bosses thankfully stand out at first, but the
endgame battles come off as uninspiring; the final battle against Infinite plays near - identically to the Metal Sonic fight, and the last
boss... well, mechanically speaking, you fought it before.
