The
ending of the film is (understandably) extremely dissatisfying to series fans, and while the emptiness of the final shot does have a sense of the respect to it, for those who've been riveted in Ripley's story since Alien, there appears to have been nothing gained
from a story or
theme standpoint.
I know the main

from Silver Surfer, but what about the break and
ending music (neither of which I have noticed before)?
By its
end, however, the
themes that make the film stand out in the first place don't seem to come with any specific message attached, which is disappointing, and it suffers

ends on Asgard with Thor, his adoptive brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston), who is more often his enemy than his friend, an Asgardian warrior known as a Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), and the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) battling Thor and Loki's recently freed sister Hela (Cate Blanchett, camping it up deliciously), the Goddess of Death, whose role in Asgard's conquering of the nine other realms has been largely obliterated
from the official history (this is the film's one major socio - cultural
theme, and it gets a beautifully realized visualization when Hela causes a seemingly innocuous painted dome to crack open, revealing a portrait of a much darker and more violent history underneath).
Although the style at times
ends up detracting
from the storytelling, its central
theme of the lure and danger of the criminal life and a villain so perfect at personifying that
theme are the propelling force of the film.
From the occult rituals of Ben Wheatley's Kill List and the esoteric strangeness of Robert Eggers» The Witch, to the quiet, sea - demon haunting Paul Wright's For Those in Peril and the ritual nastiness of David Keating's Wake Wood, Night of the Demon's
themes still have an unnerving, almost supernatural pull on the stranger
end of British cinema even today.
Some would argue that it should have also been nominated for Best Picture, although it may have seen some heavy vote splits

from the Oscar - nominated Sting tune in the
end credits (which while appealing, sounds like it was written for a completely different film), there is just one silly song delivered at the beginning and reprised at the
end, which is performed by Kuzco's
Theme Song Guy (Tom Jones).
