A new London
exhibition draws the capital's attention to the artist and activist who sought to
engage with his community through
play.
Entitled Transcending Boundaries, the
exhibition will feature two never before seen works that celebrate the possibilities of technology in terms of art and
engage the viewers in the exploration of themes such as creativity,
play, life and fluidity.
With this connectivity in mind, this
exhibition of performative and interactive works challenges the role of the audience and
engages it in acts of
play and storytelling.
In their words, «they create installations, make videos, photographs, print and online works,
play with archival traces, make
exhibitions and art interventions in public spaces, write essays, enact lecture - performances,
engage with pedagogical procedures, edit books, design events, and foster collaborations.»
Curated by Josh Ginsburg, the
exhibition is focused on «works and practices that fluidly seek to
engage entropy and efficiency, waste, residue and offcuts, transactions, propositions, and serious
play».
These
exhibitions engage with and
play upon various readings of promise as simultaneously anticipating a future and its fulfillment or lack thereof, as well as a kind of inevitability, either positive or negative.
Stony Brook University's
exhibition takes advantage of its 5,000 - square foot gallery to present towering installations that
play to the location as well as encourage viewers to fully
engage (and enjoy) the oversized installations and sculptures as singular pieces and in relation to Friedman - Sanchez's art.
In this installation, Molzan's first solo museum
exhibition and New York debut, the artist's
engaging and sophisticated works each reveal a highly distinctive character and
play off one another in lively counterpoint.
