pumping of an
engine's pistons creates a
vacuum in the cylinders, and that
vacuum is filled by air drawn in through the intake system.

this may be of interest to you, I was chasing a P2293 and 171 507 and I think a 174 code on a 2006 Jetta GLI, I had replaced the «Low Pressure» fuel
pump and also the high pressure
pump cam follower (that's where you helped), BUT because I am a small business (just me) I can not afford all the diagnostic equipment that Mr VW can, so I sent the customer to Mr VW to diagnose the problem, they assured her it was the
Vacuum pump, so I purchased and fitted it and sent her on her way, oh shit phone call check
engine light back on, when I checked the 2293 code had gone but not the others, why am I not surprised VW screwed a customer!!!

So, what is the function of a
vacuum pump in a modern
engine, or is this just a label problem with the app?
Diesel
engines inject the fuel directly into the combustion chamber, have no intake air restrictions apart from air filters and intake plumbing and have no intake manifold
vacuum to add parasitic load and
pumping losses resulting from the pistons being pulled downward against intake system
vacuum.

engine vacuum drawn from the windshield wiper
pump would simultaneously open the front and rear carburetors.
There is a
vacuum pump on the front of the
engine near the water
pump, The large
vacuum line that comes out of it branches off to three or four smaller lines not far from the
pump connection.
Rough idle and excessive shaking of the
engine could be due to a bad tank of gasoline, dirty fuel injectors, incorrect idle speed, exhaust restrictions,
vacuum leaks, incorrectly installed or damaged spark plugs, a defective or clogged fuel
pump or fuel filter, failing electrical components such as the ignition control module, plug wires, coils, and spark plugs, a defective airflow sensor, dirty oxygen sensors and other causes.
Hi there - the brake booster on your Jetta uses an
engine - driven
vacuum pump - rather than
vacuum from the
engine intake system and a
vacuum booster cylinder as many cars have historically used.
