Of course Retro did a fantastic job of still making the bosses fun and interesting despite giving themselves this constraint, so the combat is still rather
enjoyable during boss fights, with the smaller enemies feeling like more of obstacles to be avoided.
This is largely due to the fact that the game isn't particularly challenging early on, and therefore the quick tactics that make the combat so
enjoyable are only seen
during some of the moderately challenging
fights and
bosses.
